2019 has been another big year for cryotherapy! As it becomes even more popular and more prevalent, we’re able to see first-hand how it is positively impacted people’s lives. New studies are being done to discover additional benefits of cryotherapy, and although we’re not surprised, we’re thrilled that we’re able to share this good news!

Here are just a few of the new cryotherapy benefits that have been discovered in 2019 so far:

Cryotherapy Reduces Pain from Wisdom Tooth Removal Surgery – Each year, five million people get their wisdom teeth removed, and many people are still prescribed opioids afterward, even though this has been linked to long-term use and abuse. In April, the National Institutes of Health concluded that cryotherapy may be a good alternative to consider. This comes as no surprise, considering cryotherapy is incredible for reducing pain associated with inflammation!

Cryotherapy Improves the Psychological and General Health of Those With MS – 60 patients with Multiple Sclerosis were divided into groups to test three therapy options: cryotherapy, physical exercise training, and cryotherapy with physical exercise training. The cryotherapy group experienced a reduction in depressive symptoms and improved functional status. The most significant improvement was seen in the group undergoing cryotherapy with physical exercise training.

Cryotherapy Reduces Postoperative Pain from Gynecologic Surgery – In February, a study was done to determine if those who underwent an exploratory laparotomy gynecologic procedure would benefit from cryotherapy afterward for pain management. The researchers found that cryotherapy was effective, saying, “Cryotherapy, in our opinion, should be widely used in postoperative pain control because it is a noninvasive mode of operation with a very effective cost, no complication, and a very favorable patient report.”

Cryotherapy Helps Prepare Athletes for Competition – We’ve always known that cryotherapy is a great recovery tool for high-level athletes, but a new study shows that the physiological effects associated with routine whole body cryotherapy sessions (especially when done right before a competition) can lead to enhanced athletic performance.

Many of our own customers at Cryotherapy of Wisconsin have known about these benefits for years, but when the scientific community backs it up, it brings more attention to this safe and natural therapy.
